WTA Hong Kong Day 1 Predictions
Maddison Inglis vs Yafan Wang
Head-to-head: first meeting
Maddison Inglis’ record in WTA qualifying this season has been decent. But the 27-year-old has struggled to make an impression in the main draw. If she is to pick up a rare win at this level, this would be a great matchup for the World No. 167. Yafan Wang has played 17 matches all season because of injuries and the Chinese player has been nowhere near the form that once elevated her ascent into the top 50.
Prediction: Inglis in 3
Momoko Kobori vs Ajla Tomljanovic
Head-to-head: first meeting
Momoko Kobori saved a match point in the final round of qualifying and won a three-hour match against Xiaodi You to reach the Hong Kong main draw. Kobori’s first round of qualifying wasn’t as dramatic as she cruised past countrywoman Ikumi Yamazaki. However, she faces a seasoned Tour-level opponent in Ajla Tomljanovic. The former World No. 32 has a great chance of nailing a top 100 spot, and she’s won five of her past seven matches. Tomljanovic has the momentum to make short work of the qualifier.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 2
Maya Joint vs Anastasija Sevastova
Head-to-head: first meeting
Maya Joint has been a breath of fresh air on the WTA Tour. The young Aussie has taken all comers without any fear in her first full season and is currently sitting at a career-high ranking of World No. 32. Anastasija Sevastova’s comeback season hasn’t been similarly productive. The veteran has won 10 of 21 matches in 2025. Sevastova still possesses an exceptional slice that could test Joint’s patience, but the youngster has the legs to turn the Latvian’s best shot into a liability.
Prediction: Joint in 2
