The 6’0″ scoring guard arrives from the Dominican Republic, but has spent much of his recent career in China, where he averaged more than 20 points per game. Peterson joins the Hawks hoping to help them build on their impressive win in Perth last round.
“My agent said ‘Justin Tatum loves your game’ and thinks I could help these guys get back on track, and you know, hopefully bring another championship back here,” he told the Illawarra Mercury.
The 31-year-old is no stranger to the league he now calls home and hopes his experience will help him adapt quickly and make an impact.
“I jumped at the chance. Australia has always been on my radar. The talent level is comparable to that of Turkey and Spain,” he said. “Especially the national team. I see how hard they compete, and I just know overall it’s a great league.”
“Through the years I’ve watched it, especially with it being on ESPN Plus and Disney. I was able to catch a few games and observe the style of it, how physical it is, how the guards play here, how they are successful here, and things like that.”
The Hawks currently have just two wins on the board in NBL26 but have played the fewest games of any team with only six. Their next test is against the New Zealand Breakers on Friday night, as they look to continue building momentum.
