Tim Tebow has fully embraced fatherhood, months after welcoming his first baby with his wife, former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Tebow.
“It is awesome, it is one of the biggest blessings in life,” Tim, 38, told TMZ Sports in a story published Wednesday, November 5.
Tim and Demi-Leigh announced the arrival of their daughter, Daphne, via an Instagram carousel on July 7. Demi-Leigh explained in the caption that she is named for her mom’s aunt, who “stepped in as a grandma figure to me.”
“She was so special to my mom and I,” she wrote in the caption. “A tiny, kind and strong South African woman who always had shortbread in the house, was the epitome of grit and grace, loved Jesus, had the voice of an angel and made everyone feel seen and special.”
Demi-Leigh also shared the meaning behind Daphne’s middle name, Reign.
“It’s a name that holds so much meaning,” she wrote. “It’s inspired by a precious little girl Tim and I have loved deeply for years. Her story has shaped our hearts in ways I can’t even begin to explain. But more than anything, her name reminds us that when you’re adopted into God’s family, you become a child of the King. You were made to rule and reign — not in power, but in purpose, love and identity.”
The family has kept followers updated on Daphne’s first months, chronicling the day they brought her home from the hospital and celebrating each milestone along the way.
“I want her to just know that she is loved and priceless to God,” Tim said, speaking to TMZ while in New York to promote his new book, “Look Again: Recognize Your Worth. Renew Your Hope. Run with Confidence.” “She would always know that.”
Four months in, Tim implied he may be a little sleep-deprived, but he has welcomed everything fatherhood brings with it. Asked what the biggest challenge has been so far, he replied, “Just trying to do everything to protect her.”
Tim is a two-time national champion quarterback at the University of Florida. The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner went on to play three seasons in the NFL before trying his hand at a baseball career. He now works for ESPN as a college football analyst.
“Studying for SEC Nation looks a little different this year,” he joked via Instagram in August alongside a video of himself at his computer with Daphne asleep on his chest.
And in case Florida fans are wondering, Tim is perfectly happy in his current role, despite his name being floated as a candidate for the vacant Gators coaching job.
“You’ve got to find someone that can galvanize the [fans] and bring Gator Nation back to where they want to go and back to where they’ve been,” he said during an October appearance on SportsCenter. “I also think it’s really important to understand that they’re not that far away. This is a Florida team that has a really good defense and a very talented offense. This cupboard is not bare, but you have to find someone that can really galvanize and also keep these players in a time where it’s so easy to leave and transfer — and they have an opportunity to do that.”
