Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia had a message for Ty Simpson as they shook hands right after Simpson’s Alabama team defeated the Commodores.
Nick Saban shared Saturday during ESPN’s “College GameDay” that Simpson shared a story with the former Alabama coach.
“Your man Diego has all the confidence in the world,” Saban told Pat McAfee. “I talked to Ty Simpson. Ty Simpson said after Alabama beat Vanderbilt, shaking hands with Diego, he says, ‘We’ll see you again.’”
The conversation was revealed as the college football panel was talking about potential College Football Playoff contenders.
“Vandy needs some help, but they can still dance their way in this entire thing,” McAfee said. “The magic that was built in Vanderbilt, in Nashville with Diego and Coach (Clark) Lea and everything they have cooking. Although you get a second loss, they need some help, but they can still go. They can’t be relenting.”
Simpson threw for 340 yards and two touchdowns, leading No. 10 Alabama to a 30-14 victory over No. 16 Vanderbilt earlier this season.
Simpson overcame an early interception – his only of the season – to complete 23-of-30 passes, finding Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams for touchdowns. Jam Miller ran for 136 yards and a touchdown for the Crimson Tide.
Pavia threw for 183 yards and ran for 58 for Vanderbilt (5-1, 1-1), but threw an interception and lost a fumble.
