  • Jeff Goldblum says filming Wicked inspired him to give up meat and adopt a vegetarian diet.
  • The film’s themes of animal oppression led him to rethink cruelty and embrace plant-based living.
  • He plans a meat-free holiday season, which can be made easy with veggie mains and casseroles.

Wicked: For Good comes out next week, and we’re counting down the days. In the meantime, we’re keeping up with the stars of the anticipated sequel, which includes Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Oz himself, Jeff Goldblum.

All three of these stars have something in common, and it’s not just their impressive acting and singing careers. They all follow a plant-based diet, and Goldblum recently revealed that working on Wicked inspired him to transition to a vegetarian eating pattern.

“It changed me,” Goldblum shares about working on Wicked and with director Jon M. Chu in an interview with This Morning. “You know, after doing this movie, we talked about the animal cruelty, I stopped eating meat and poultry. So this Christmas and Thanksgiving, I may be having … something else.”

One of the many themes of Wicked is the oppression of animals, correlating with the real-world issue of animal cruelty. So this messaging helped Goldblum adjust his lifestyle to embrace a meat-free diet.

“I’m happy,” he says. “We need the world to work for everybody on Earth, and every creature, too.”

We love that Goldblum was able to smoothly convert to a vegetarian way of eating. While it might not appeal to everyone, a plant-based diet can help lower cancer risk, improve blood sugar, support your heart health and more. If you’re interested but are unsure where to start, talk to a health care professional or dietitian to help you slowly adapt to a plant-based eating pattern.

As for Thanksgiving and Christmas mains, there are so many dishes that Goldblum can try to replace the typical holiday roasts. From stuffed acorn squash to cauliflower steaks, you can get creative—and our vegetarian casserole collection offers some perfect sides for any festive dinner party. With comforting roasted vegetables and cheesy casseroles, no one will be missing the bird.
