It’s cold in Conte Forum

SCORE UPDATE: Syracuse 18, Boston College 15 with 7:33 remaining in the first half

It’s been a pretty gruesome stretch of offensive basketball midway through the first half.

George set up White underneath for a dunk by collapsing the defense, but White got stuffed by the rim. BC’s bench was incredulous at a foul call on the play, but White missed the front-end as a fan shouts “Ball don’t lie” so loud it came through on the broadcast.

White picked up his third foul 8:36 remaining in the half. He got his hand on the shot attempt but also caught the body.

The Orange is on a near-5-minute field goal drought.

Boston College is chipping away at the deficit from the line but has also gone more than 4 minutes without a field goal.

SCORE UPDATE: Syracuse 17, Boston College 11 with 9:57 remaining in the first half

Kingz drives baseline and draws a help defender before finding Naithan George in the corner. George sidesteps the defender and hits the corner 3.

Freeman drives from the right elbow and finishes the and-one before JJ Starling, playing some point guard, takes his man off the dribble and finishes the layup.

Autry rolling out a lineup consisting of Starling, Kiyan Anthony, Tyler Betsey, Sadiq White and Akir Souare.

Important wardrobe note: White wearing a headband over the new-look braided hair.

Boston College has shot 3-for-its-first-11 from the field, including a blown uncontested layup by Payne.

SCORE UPDATE: Syracuse 7, Boston College 4 with 15:28 remaining in the first half

The SU-BC game has back redirected to ACC Network Extra for the start with Notre Dame-Virginia Tech running long.

Nate Kingz has taken four of the first seven shots for the Orange, making a 3 to give SU a 7-4 lead at the first TV timeout.

Pregame

Syracuse faces, by far, its worst remaining opponent this season on Saturday afternoon.

Expect a bipartisan crowd inside chilly Conte Forum, the apropos ice hockey/basketball arena where the cold-shooting Eagles, ranked 287th in offensive efficiency, per KenPom, play their home games. Syracuse fans always matriculate to this venue and make it a de-facto neutral-site game.

In ACC play, Syracuse is 20-4 against Boston College dating back to the 2013-14 season.

BC has two reputable guards in redshirt junior Donald Hand Jr. (14.4 points per game) and redshirt sophomore guard Fred Payne (14.1). But Earl Grant’s team really struggles to score. The Eagles are shooting <40% from the field and <30% from 3-point range on the season.

The Orange is coming into Saturday’s game playing some of its best basketball of the season.

A big reason for that is the presence of sophomore forward Donnie Freeman, who has led the team in scoring in seven of the eight games he’s played in.
