Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered an apparent leg injury during the second quarter of the team’s home-opening NFL Week 2 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Paycor Stadium.

Burrow remained down after a hit and removed his helmet. Medical personnel evaluated Burrow, and the star QB walked with some assistance to the sideline to the blue medical tent for further evaluation.

Burrow went to the locker room a short time later, with 7:04 left in the first half. He couldn’t appear to put any weight on his injured lower leg.

Burrow was replaced by backup Jake Browning.

Burrow, who finished the 2024 season as the league leader in passing yards and touchdown passes, was sacked for a 17-yard loss during the first quarter and brought down later on a scary horse-collar tackle by the Commanders’ Deatrich Wise Jr. before he left the Bengals’ NFL preseason game against Washington. ESPN’s Jason Kelce questioned the Bengals for allowing the hits.

Burrow was evaluated for a concussion during the Bengals’ Week 18 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers in January.

During a win in Dallas, Burrow was injured after his facemask was grabbed and twisted by Cowboys rookie Marist Liufau. The injury did not force Burrow out of the game. Two days later, the NFL announced it would consider employing replay assistance for facemask infractions.

During a Week 10 loss to Baltimore, the Ravens’ Marlon Humphrey wasn’t penalized for hitting Burrow late. In addition, Ravens defensive lineman Nnamdi Madubuike grabbed Burrow’s facemask, but was not penalized.

During a Week 9 win against the Raiders, Burrow had bleeding below his ear after a hit after the whistle by Maxx Crosby. The Raiders’ defensive end was fined $11,255 for the hit.

Burrow was evaluated for a concussion during the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 6 win against the Giants.

Burrow suffered a season-ending arm injury in 2023. He played in 10 games in that season as well as the 2020 season, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury as a rookie against Washington.
