Television and radio personality Ryan Seacrest announced the death of his father, Gary Lee Seacrest, after a long battle with prostate cancer.
The “American Idol” host shared the news in an emotional Instagram post last week, featuring a carousel of family photos and a heartfelt tribute.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week,” Seacrest wrote. “My mom, sister and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering.”
Seacrest continued: “We are heartbroken. He was a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible Papa to Flora, and my best friend. Dad, you will live in our hearts forever. I love you. Ryan.”
Gary Seacrest had battled prostate cancer for years, Parade reported. The family once believed the cancer was no longer detectable, but Ryan revealed in July that his father’s condition had worsened.
Following the announcement, friends and celebrities shared messages of support in the comments section.
Actor Mario Lopez wrote, “God bless you and your family bro,” while television personality Carson Kressley commented, “Sending you lots of ❤️ at this sad time.”
